INTERNATIONAL EVALUATIONS

C.E.I.P Mandela is aware of the importance of international evaluations such as PIRLS and TIMSS for this reason we are going to take into account the last results in Spain of both evaluations.

PIRLS: assess reading and literacy.

TIMSS: mathematics and sciences.

Both are developed in fourth of primary education as the diagnostic evaluations in Spain.

PIRLS

System to evaluate:

Spain has a medium level in the evaluations. In the following graphic we can see a representation of the significant improvement that Spain has made during time in relation to the average of OECD.

TIMSS

System to evaluate:

-In mathematics Spain is having a medium level (502 points), lightly above 500 points. This result is below the OECD (527). This demonstrates the necessity for a immediately change.

- In science we are also below the average of OECD, having also a medium level.

We can see how Spain improved its performance in 2015 in both areas but in recent years it has changed.

STRATEGIES TO IMPROVE EVALUATIONS

In C.E.I.P Mandela we have built a series of strategies in order to improve the results of our diagnostics evaluations as those are similar to the ones obtained in the international evaluations.

The first one is “Mathematical Olympics”. Once a year a mathematics exam in which all students can participate will be done, it would be previously prepared by the mathematics teacher. Thus the school could prove the abilities and difficulties of our students in mathematics in order to improve teaching.

The second strategy is ‘’Science laboratory’’. Every student of our school will be able to use it. It is a way of putting in practice what they have learned in theoretical classes.

To improve the level of reading in our school and to promote it, we have used a strategy called "The travelling suitcase". In this suitcase we will find books of all kinds focused on all levels of our schools. Students can take the books to their house, thus they will discover new books which could make them being interested on reading.

The last one is called “Mandela’s Newspaper”. They will have to write invented stories to write them in the newspaper. To do so, they are working with grammar, vocabulary but most important with their creativity. Finally, every student will have the honor to write and read their own newspaper.

PARTICIPATION BODIES

Within the participation bodies we find the Parents Association and the

School Council.

 PARENTS ASSOCIATION

-Parents Association of Mandela School is composed of 4 fathers and 5 mothers which have the following functions:

  • To collaborate in the organization of complementary activities

and participate in educational activities of our school.
  • To ensure the participation of parents in the management of the school.

  • To support the presence of parents when making decisions.

  • To carry out projects in order to have a good educational offer.

  • To organize and cooperate in extracurricular activities.

  • To inform other parents about the subjects that their children will have.

  • To organize meeting activities (such as organized trips, meetings…)

-Within this we find the ‘Junta Directiva’, which is responsible for the organization,

management and monitoring of extracurricular activities for students.

Specifically, the INITIATIVES that the Parents Association will develop are:

1. Eliminating Fears: it will consist of carrying out every week a meeting, so that the parents of the students of our school can express themselves and communicate their thoughts and insecurities about the needs of their children.

2. As our school is focussed on the development of extracurricular activities that in the school hours are not offered, as for example chess and a musical chorus in which all teachers, students and parents can attend voluntarily.

3. Crowdfunding Requests: it consists of a network of collective funding, which through small annual donations from the families of the students, we will get the best tools and resources that guarantee the greatest enjoyment and learning of our students.

4. In addition, they will propose new educational activities, so they will collaborate in the research and will look for the best option for our students to visit an educational place during the academic year.

5. Moreover, in Christmas, students will make a Christmas’ song contest and they will be dressed up according to the theme. Parent’s association will help to make the costumes and attend the contest.

6. A theatre will be develop. It will be focused on summer.

Finally, AMPA will try to support those students most in need. For this reason, the parents' association will organize two festivities to collect school materials needed by students with less financial resources.

The INNOVATION PROJECTS carried out in our school are the following ones:

The first one is called ''Aula CreaTICva'' a project about digital devices to

help teaching and learning.

There our students can create videos introducing sounds and creative activities

to do in order to share them to the class.

In this way, they are going to discover new technologies and become more familiar

with them.

The next project is called 'El Patio de mi Cole', a project about respect and coexistence.

It consists of knowing the behaviour of our students in the recess, thus analyzing it in

order to develop an adequate coexistence plan.

The last project we have introduced is known as ''Mindfulness'' a project related to

physical and mental healthThis project is willing to improve many capacities of our students like attention, relationships with others or to control themselves. Despite being beneficial for every student, it is going to be very essential for those with SNES.

COORDINATION BODIES

The Teaching Coordination Bodies, in C.E.I.P. Mandela will be the following: teaching teams, cycle teams, educational counseling team, pedagogic coordination technical team and tutors.

C.E.I.P. Mandela is a bilingual school and it is important to have a responsible for the coordination of its proper teaching as it is stated in. For this reason we introduce Noelia Estepa Jordán, who is respomsible for the coordination of bilingual education for two academic years, having some important responsabilities such as proposing and coordinating activities in relationship with bilingual teaching.

LEADERSHIP STYLE AND SCHOOL COUNCIL

Leadership in schools is essential for developing a good future. It is the intentional influence that is made by an individual or by a group over others to structure the activities and relationships in a group or organisation. Interaction between leaders, teachers and situations is the key for a good organisation. Therefore,  we have decided to develop participative leadership between others. In our school many people will have the potential to exercise leadership in any organisation, so we are going to use democratic principles in the decision-making processes, thus increasing the collaboration and the effectiveness in C.E.I.P Mandela.

Other ways of leadership that we will promote in our school are interpersonal leadership and transformational ones.

For us a successful leader is a person who develops a vision based on their personal and professional values but without manipulating the school members, thus acting in a collaborative way.

Regarding the School Council it is the body through which the education community participates in the schools governing which competences are approving and evaluating the school plan between others.

Finally, the School Council meetings will be carried out making possible the attendance of all staff and will be convened by the head teacher Virginia. These will be established once a week.

On the other hand the Teaching Staff has the responsibility of planning, coordinating, informing and, where appropriate, deciding about the school educational matters. It is guided by the head teacher of our school and it would be composed by the school teachers and the head of studies.

General Annual Plan (G.A.P)

It is a detailed project of what is desired to achieve during the school year. In C.E.I.P Mandela  one of the main goals is to form students with the necessary competences and learn to respect different cultures. We can achieve that by each of the elements that participate in the school environment.

It can be defined as a declaration of intentions for those next goals that are desired to be achieved and the operational means to get a correct execution.

Self-evaluation Report (S.R.)

It is an evaluation report in which the degree of compliance of the General Annual Plan is valued. Each school, including C.E.I.P Mandela, must perform a self-evaluation that will be supervised by the education inspection.

It contains the specific planning, development and evaluation instruments of each area that we offer in our school. They must obey the general criteria that are gathered in the Educational Project of our school and take into consideration the students' needs and characteristics. These are prepared by cycle teams and approved by the Teaching Staff. They can be updated or modified after the self-evaluation procedures.

Pedagogical proposals

Pedagogic proposals in Mandela’s preschool education are specific planning, development and evaluation instruments of the teaching and learning process. They must respect children’s growth and learning characteristics. Also, they are prepared by the preschool education cycle team and approved by the Teaching Staff.
